Man in custody after chase from Newport onto I-275

(Dearborn County Sheriff's Department)

NEWPORT, Ky. (WKRC) - A man accused of leading police on a chase through three states is in jail.

The chase started Friday night when 35-year-old David Smiddy's father called Newport Police to report his son was high on meth.

When officers arrived at the home on Aspen Court, they say Smiddy ran over Officer Steve Linville's foot.

Newport and Southgate Police Officers chased Smiddy onto I-275.

Stop sticks were deployed in Wilder, but that didn't stop him.

The chase went through Kentucky, into Indiana, and ended right over the state line in Ohio.

At the end of the chase, police say Smiddy intentionally hit three marked police cruisers with his vehicle.

Officers used a taser on Smiddy and took him into custody.

He's facing charges in all three states.
