Man responsible for deadly overdose in Boone County work camp sentenced to life
BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) - A man received a life sentence for smuggling drugs into a Boone County jail work camp, resulting in a deadly overdose.
A federal judge sentenced Johnny Shelton for conspiring to distribute carfentanil.
Inmate Timothy Marcum died after snorting drugs there in October 2016. That led police to a smuggling ring in the work camp.
Investigators say inmates allowed to work outside would smuggle the drugs into the facility and that Shelton led the smuggling ring.
