EAST WALNUT HILLS, Ohio (WKRC) - Mercy Montessori is back in session for the 2019-2020 school year.
284 students, teachers and staff celebrated the first day of school on Thursday.
It’s a big year for Greater Cincinnati’s first Catholic Montessori grade school. The school is celebrating its’ 50th anniversary. The school also boasts the areas first Catholic Montessori Junior High which celebrated its’ 25th anniversary this summer.
Mercy Montessori will host an anniversary open house and school tours for the public on September 29th from 2:15-4:30 p.m.
There will be homecoming events for alumni and Mercy families from September 27th to 29th.
The school is sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. It was founded by Sister Jacinta Shay.
Students come from 58 Tri-State zip codes to the school. Kids start school at three-years-old. It runs through 8th grade.
In additional to typical classes and traditional Montessori techniques, students participate in swimming lessons from three-years-old.
Students also follow the Erdkinder and microeconomy program at the Farmessori.
Kids have a choice of working on the groovy smoothie, natural tea, bee team, and chicken team. Students turn their lessons in the Farmessori into businesses, selling smoothies, eggs, tea, and honey.
