Woman struck by Metro bus, trapped under tire near Fountain Square
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A pedestrian was struck by a Metro bus near Fountain Square on Thursday evening.
Sally Gaynor, 54, was in the crosswalk crossing Main Street on the north side of the intersection with East 5th Street when a Cincinnati Metro bus was turning off East 5th onto Main. The bus struck her, knocked her to the ground and rolled on top of her.
When the bus stopped, she was trapped underneath. Emergency crews arrived to the scene and found her "alert and oriented" but her leg was stuck under the front tire of the bus.
Crews were able to free her by using airbags to lift the bus. Freeing her took about 20 minutes.
Gaynor was taken to University Hospital and is in serious but stable condition, according to the police.
There was one passenger on the bus at the time. Both the passenger and the driver of the bus were unharmed.
Excessive speed and impairments were not factors in the crash, according to police.
The wreck is still under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact Cincinnati Police at 513-352-2514.
