CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The brand-new Creativity Center opens over the weekend at the Contemporary Arts Center downtown.

This learning space is all about creativity and exploration of art and ideas, and the best part is, it's free and fun for all ages.

"It's a great way to kind of step outside of your comfort zone, try something new and connect with your community," said CAC creative learning director Elizabeth Hardin-Klink.

The nearly $5 million project started a year ago, and is the second major update to the CAC's building since it opened in 2003.

One of the nine local artists who designed displays for the Creativity Center is Pam Kravetz. She designed the Pinkalicious Pamajama's House of Wonder, an interactive display.

"I love to work with community, and I love to work with other artists. So, what I did is, I had little kids because they are the most creative people in the universe come up with ideas for me, and then I took those ideas and my friends. We call ourselves 'Pam and Co. created Silly Scooter's Club House, You Belong Here, and Pinkalicious Pamajama's House of Wonder,'" Kravetz said.

Inside the display, there are buttons the kids can press and make lights turn different colors, hear different sounds, and play videos.

Artist Michelle D'Cruz also created a display in the Creativity Center with help from 50 kids in the community. They held workshops allowing kids to create their own stories with heroes and villains, and had the kids draw pictures of the story. D'Cruz and her partner brought those stories to life on video displays.

"This project is absolutely incredible to me," D'Cruz said. "The CAC is opening up space for communities to co-create alongside artists. It's also engaging local folks in a way that's bringing regional artists to the forefront and giving them an opportunity to interact on the ground with people who live and work in the area."

The Creativity Center's grand opening is Saturday 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. There, you can meet the artists and architects who put this project together.

You are encouraged to register if you plan to attend the grand opening.
