Ring of Fire: World of the Octopus opens March 9 (WKRC)

NEWPORT, Ky. (WKRC) - The Newport Aquarium is heating things up with the launch of a new exhibit called the "Ring of Fire: World of the Octopus". It opens Friday, March 9 but Local 12 got a sneak peek.

The new exhibit features the Pacific octopus, the Japanese Spider Crab and moon jellyfish.

Simon is the giant Pacific Octopus. He's got a lot of fans.

There will be two giant Japanese spider crabs by the time the exhibit opens. They can live to be 100 years old and grow to be 12 feet across. The crab currently in the tank is a juvenile.

The Newport Aquarium has its own jellyfish nursery. It's breeding its own jellyfish for its own use and to send to other aquariums, according to Eric Rose with the Aquarium.
