NEWPORT, Ky. (WKRC) - The wheels get rolling on a big change to our riverfront in northern Kentucky.
Newport officials approved the sale of bonds for a SkyWheel near Newport on the Levee. The 240-foot tall Ferris wheel has been in the planning stages for three years.
The Army Corps of Engineers rejected a plan for the SkyWheel to be located on the floodwall. The new location puts it on an 80-foot pier that will jut out onto the Ohio River.
The pier will have to be built, then the SkyWheel will be assembled on it. No opening date has been announced.
