Old Argosy Casino barge arrives in northern Kentucky

Argosy Casino Barge

COVINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) - There's a new addition to the traffic on the Ohio River.

The former Argosy Casino barge used to be in Sioux City, Iowa. It arrived at its temporary location in Covington Wednesday from Wood River, Illinois, after 10 days on the river. The barge will be converted by B&B Riverboats into a new event facility, catering operation, wharf and business offices.

The owner of B&B Riverboats, Captain Alan Bernstein, says the current facilities just aren't big enough to fill their needs. The new barge is set to host as many as 200 people.

The construction is estimated at $2 million.

"It's big. It's a huge job for us, but we have six months. I think we're going to be right on schedule, and I think it's going to be great when it's done," said Bernstein.

Construction is slated to be done in January 2019.

When improvements are complete, the barge will be moved to its permanent location in Newport.
