Police chase that started in Newport ends on I-275 near Ohio/Indiana border
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A police chase that started in Newport ended on I-275 near the border of Ohio and Indiana Friday night.
A man reportedly ran over a police officer's foot in Newport and then led police on a chase through Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.
The incident started Friday night when a man called police because he said his son was high on meth. When police arrived at the house on Aspen Court in Newport, they say 35-year-old David Smiddy ran over an officer's foot.
Newport and Southgate police officers then chased Smiddy onto I-275. Stop sticks were deployed in Wilder, but they didn't work.
The chase went through Kentucky and into Indiana and then ended in Ohio, not far from the Indiana border.
At the end of the pursuit, police say Smiddy struck three marked police cruisers with his vehicle.
Officers used a Taser on Smiddy and took him into custody. He's facing felony charges in all three states.
