CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Cincinnati’s mayor honors the ongoing work by local Red Cross workers to help hurricane victims in Texas and Florida.

The local chapter has 82 people in areas devastated by storms. Most are volunteers.

"Well what the volunteers are doing right now is what we call mass care, sheltering, providing a place for people to stay, food, water, shelter, a shoulder to lean on, hope, mental health counseling for those with that expertise. People can't just show up and volunteer but we do want volunteers. We want them to be trained to know what they're getting into,” said Trish Smitson, CEO of Greater Cincinnati/Dayton Red Cross.
