Kentucky police searching for runaway inmate

NEWPORT, Ky. (WKRC) — Kentucky State Police are searching for a runaway inmate, who they say walked away from a work detail on Wednesday on the Kentucky side of the Purple People bridge.

26-year-old George Gattis of Sparta, Kentucky was last seen wearing a white-t shirt and blue jeans at 200 Riverboat Rd.

Police describe him as a white male with brown hair and blue eyes, 5'11" and 170 lbs.

Gattis was incarcerated for theft by unlawful taking and probation violation charges.

Trooper Joshua Wise is leading an ongoing investigation into Gattis.
