CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Shayna Hubers has received a sentence of life in prison for the murder of Ryan Poston
A jury recommended a harsher sentence for Hubers after her retrial. During her first trial, the jury only recommended 40 years.
Hubers shot and killed Poston at his Highland Heights condo. The prosecution said it was because he was going to break up with her. Hubers has maintained it was self-defense.
The jury could have recommended anywhere between 20 to 50 years in prison. After three-and-a-half hours of deliberations, the jury recommended life.
Under Kentucky law, Hubers is eligible for parole in 20 years. She gets credit for time served, so she will be up for parole in 14 years.
