Shooting suspect accused of leading Cincinnati police on a high speed chase
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A shooting suspect, accused of leading police on a high speed chase before bailing from the vehicle appeared in court. Javontae Louis faces a total of 18 charges including felonious assault, drug trafficking and failure to comply with police.
Assistant prosecutor David Wood told the court that police tried to pull Louis over for an arrest warrant but he took off. Wood said the pursuit went from the Norwood Lateral into the downtown/West End area. That's when Wood said Louis bailed from the moving car, which went on to hit another vehicle.
Police found 18 grams of heroin and crack, according to Wood.
Wood said Louis was shown surveillance video of him in the parking lot of a convenience store when a woman standing in line was shot. At first, Louis acknowledged it was him in the video but he denied that he was the gunman. Then he broke down and cried and said his life was over. He said he knew the victim and called her a "sweet girl".
A judge held Louis held on more than $450,000 bond.
