Son visiting Ohio mom fatally shoots home intruder

AKRON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - An Ohio man is dead after he was shot while trying to break into a woman's home.

The woman normally lives alone at her home in Akron, but her son happened to be visiting over the weekend. She called 911 after her son fired one shot, "My son had to shoot the guy, he's breaking into the house."

According to the woman, after the man, who's been identified as Daniel Jones, 41, was shot once, he kept trying to get into her home, so her son shot him again.

Police tell WJW Jones is the woman's neighbor and lived right behind her. However, she didn't know who he was. Lt. Rick Edwards with the Akron Police Department says this case leaves a lot of questions unanswered, "Even though their properties may have butt to each other, she still didn't know who he was and this guy was trying to get into her house, for what reason, we may never know."

Police say prior to this weekend's shooting, Jones had no previous arrests and no criminal record.
