LEBANON, Ohio (WKRC) - There is an update on a federal lawsuit about the fire that destroyed Lebanon Mayor Mark Messer's home.

The State Fire Marshal says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but that he can’t rule out either an accidental or intentional human act.

Allstate Insurance had refused to pay a claim of $506,000 made by Messer after his house burned down the year before.

Then, in June, Messer filed a lawsuit against Allstate for not paying the claim.

The company responded, saying Messer and his legal team "committed a wrongdoing, and through this civil action, are attempting to benefit from their wrongdoing," and that the claim "resulted from the plaintiff's intentional and fraudulent acts."
