CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A man is accused of "executing" another man at a crowded Roselawn bar. A grand jury indicted Lonnell Anderson, 49, on an aggravated murder charge.
Prosecutor Joe Deters said Anderson jumped the fence of Brandy's Bar on October 8. He saw the victim, Derek Smith, sitting at a table. According to Deters, Anderson came up from behind, pulled out a gun and shot Smith twice in the head.
Deters said investigators don't think Anderson and Smith knew each other before the shooting. He indicated Smith, who is white, was killed by Anderson, who is Black, because of his race.
At the time of the murder, Anderson was facing a gun charge and out after posting 10 percent of a $4,000 bond.
Deters called this murder preventable.
"Violent criminals, especially felons in possession of firearms, are a serious danger to this
community. People should not have to live in fear of coming upon a defendant who should have never been released from jail in the first place. The public needs to wake up to what is happening at their courthouse," said Deters in a release.
Anderson also faces murder and another gun charge. He is held on a $1.5 million bond.
