Sweets and Meats opens location in Mt. Washington
MT. WASHINGTON, Ohio (WKRC) - Food trucks have soared in popularity over the past few years and now one local vendor is taking it a step further. Kristin Bailey cut the ribbon on her new brick-and-mortar Sweets and Meats restaurant live on Local 12 at Noon.
Bailey found her passion for food by hosting a large group of friends in her backyard. At her friends' recommendations, she started her own business serving food in a parking lot with a smoker and a tent before eventually moving into a food truck over two years ago. Now, she's opening up her first brick and mortar restaurant.
Bailey called the experience "a dream come true."
"It feels amazing," Bailey said. "I've wanted to do that for months. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears have gone into today. When we first started the business, we had no idea what would come of it. And I hope our passion comes across to all the viewers out there."
Sweets and Meats specializes in smoked meats, homemade sides, and organic desserts, but this business venture is about more than just good BBQ for its owners. It's about personal freedom.
Bailey said her biggest piece of advice for those working in the corporate world who have their own dreams of starting a business is to start small.
"Start with what you have. Start with where you are," she said. "When we first started, we had $500, we had an eight-foot table that we borrowed from Mt. Washington Creamy Whip, a smoker, and a lot of passion. We just kept rebuilding and putting all the money back into the business."
A soft launch event is taking place on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the new location 2249 Beechmont Avenue in Mt. Washington.
Sweets and Meats offered free samplers while supplies last on Wednesday after the ribbon cutting.
