7-year-old cancer survivor receives special surprise at White Sox game
CHICAGO, Ill. (WKRC/CBS Newspath) - Saturday at the Orioles/White Sox game at Guaranteed Rate Field, the White Sox invited seven-year-old Beau Dowling and his family to the ballpark for a very special surprise.
Beau was treated to an unforgettable experience that included a pregame “Home Run For Life” in front of both teams’ players and coaches and a ceremonial first pitch.
The Dowling family also was presented a $10,000 check on behalf of The Andrew Weishar Foundation.
Diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma as a toddler, Beau battled through stem cell transplants as well as several rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy.
Following years of clinical trial treatments when he beat the neuroblastoma, Beau was recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had surgery in June.
His day included a limo ride to the ballpark with his parents and six siblings, autographs from his favorite White Sox players, special gifts, including a custom Sox uniform, a get-to-know Beau press conference, the “Home Run For Life” and more.
