AMBER Alert subject Elizabeth Thomas now missing for a month
Thursday marks one month since Tennessee AMBER Alert subject Mary Catherine Elizabeth Thomas and her accused kidnapper Tad Cummins have been missing.
Thomas, 15, and her former Maury County teacher Cummins, 50, were reported missing March 13.
Here are some notes about the case so far:
There's only been one confirmed sighting
Thomas and Cummins were spotted at a Walmart in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 15. Photos and information confirming this didn't come out until March 30 and TBI said the two were not believed to be in the area anymore.
Cummins is facing charges
Cummins is facing charges of sexual contact with a minor and aggravated kidnapping. TBI said he's believed to have two guns in his possession.
A photo taken school in January, days before Cummns is alleged to have had inappropriate contact with the teen, was released by TBI.
Thomas' family filed a petition on her behalf
In documents filed by the family last week, the family claims Thomas' accused abductor threatened Thomas, groomed her, and stalked her.
A courthouse hearing has been rescheduled for May 1 in an effort to have those who might have information in the case to come forward and give testimony on the record.
DA: Cummins left a note for his wife to throw agencies off their trail
Maury County District Attorney Brent Cooper said Cummins left a note for his wife, who has since filed for divorce, to try to create a diversion to buy Cummins some time by leading law enforcement in the wrong direction
DA: Cummins in need of medication, pharmacies should be alert
Cooper said Cummins should be in need of blood pressure medication and that pharmacies should stay vigilant
TBI stresses AMBER Alert isn't a romance, it's a kidnapping
TBI officials are cautioning the public on "victim blaming" in this case and say that it was a well thought out kidnapping.
The Tennessee Buearu of Investigation is leading the investigation. A nation-wide BOLO is in effect. The FBI and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are also assisting in the case.
Thomas is described as a white female teenager with blue eyes. who stands about 5 feet tall and weighs 120 pounds. At the time she went missing, she had blonde hair, however, photos from a sighting in Oklahoma City appear to show her with darker-reddish hair.
Cummins is described as a white male who stands about 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
The two are believed to be traveling in a Nissan Rogue with Tennessee License plate 976-ZPT.
