SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (CBS Newspath) - A judged ruled that a "burn after reading" letter was permitted to be entered as evidence.
It was a big victory for Gabby Petito's parents. The letter was written by Brian Laundrie's mother, and Petito's attorneys said they believe it proves Roberta Laundrie knew her son, Brian, killed Gabby Petito and offered to help cover it up.
Lawyers for the Laundries responded by saying the letter is un-dated, and does not refer in any way to Petito's death.
"This sounds like a argument you make at trial when everybody has seen what you're trying to present. Then we decide whether or not it's relevant or not relevant," the judge said.
The judge was also asked by the Laundrie's attorneys to drop family lawyer Steven Bertolino from being a named a defendant in the case.
That motion will be decided on at a later date.
