Couple sentenced to 130 years in prison for child neglect convictions

Kevin Fowler and Aislyn Miller (KTUL)

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) -- Two parents convicted of what nurses called the "worst case of child abuse" they'd ever seen will likely spend the rest of their lives in prison.

A jury recommended Kevin Fowler and Aislyn Miller be sentenced to 130 years behind bars. The couple was convicted in October of five counts each of child neglect. Prosecutors said their 8-month-old twin girls weighed just 8 pounds each when the neglect was uncovered by authorities. The babies also had bed sores and the family's home was littered with cat feces and maggots.

On Monday, a judge upheld the jury's recommendation, sentencing the couple to 30 years each for the first four counts and 10 years for the fifth. Facing a total of 130 years behind bars, Fowler and Miller will have to spend 85-percent of their time before becoming eligible for parole.

The twins' maternal grandparents, John and Cathey Miller, are awaiting trial in Rogers County for enabling child abuse and child neglect. The babies' paternal grandmother, Rita Fowler, is charged in Tulsa County for multiple counts of child neglect.
