Cross survives after massive fire destroys church

BRIDGEPORT, Texas (WOAI) – A cross was apparently still standing after a devastating fire ravaged the Balsora Baptist Church on Friday.

Fire crews quickly tackled the fire but were unable to save the building, according to the Wise County Emergency Services Department No. 2.

Remarkably, though, the Wise County Emergency Services Department No. 2 said the cross survived the blaze.

"A devastating loss to our community, but a sight to behold. The fire took the structure, but not the cross. A symbol that the building was just that, a building. The Church is the congregation, and where 2 or more gather, there he shall be also. "

The sanctuary roof began to collapse as firefighters were inside attempting to combat the flames. Multiple firefighters were treated for injuries by emergency services.
