PITTSBURGH (WKRC) - More than two dozen barges broke free on the Ohio River near Pittsburgh and ended up against a dam.

Officials say five of the barges went over the Elmsworth Lock and Dam just downstream from Pittsburgh. At least one barge sank, WPXI reports.

Another 40 or so barges broke free near Boggs Island, West Virginia along the Ohio River.

The Coast Guard has managed to catch most of them.

Most of the barges are believed to be empty, but some may be carrying coal and cement.
