MARIETTA, Ohio (WKRC) — An Ohio man was sentenced to life in prison after brutally killing his mother while a child watched.
According to reports, Lionel Justin Gore pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated murder in the death of Diane Gore.
A judge sentenced Gore to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving 25 years.
Gore faced nine other charges, including four counts of aggravated arson, three counts of felony endangering children, one count of tampering with evidence, and one count of abuse of a corpse.
Police were called to a home for a report of a structure fire. When police arrived, Gore’s six-year-old nephew told police what he had seen.
Authorities say that the child saw Gore “sawing at [Diane Gore’s] neck.” After removing her head, Gore set the body and the house on fire with the boy still inside.
First responders found the remains in a bedroom. When police arrived, Gore reportedly said, "Get out of the way or I kill you next." Gore crashed his car into two police cruisers when he tried to flee the scene. He was taken to the hospital and arrested.
When asked what happened to Diane, Gore told investigators that the victim was not his mom, claiming that he was adopted.
Gore was initially uncooperative, but returned and told police, “I cut her head off and set her on fire.”
“The sheriff’s report notes Lionel said he killed Diane because the Holy Spirit told him to as she was the devil,” one report read.
