TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WKRC/WVTM/CNN Newsource) - Most 16-year-olds aren't even sure if they want to go to college, let alone where they'd like to go.

But a talented teen in Alabama isn't just sure about her college path -- she's already about to graduate.

Leanna Roberts is only 16 years old, and will be receiving her bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama in a month.

She made the most of her education, both in and out of the classroom.

"I'm in the Society of Women in Medicine as an executive board, Vision Days ambassador, as well as a mentor. I also perform research in health disparities with Black-built communities," she said.

Her parents, Lee and Latonya Roberts, are beyond proud of everything their daughter has achieved.

"I was always excited to hear about her day," Latonya said. "Every day was unique, even though certain days were more challenging than others, but she always saw the bright side every day."

However, they say there were some concerns when Leanna was first enrolling.

"I wanted to make sure it was going to be a safe environment for her and we wouldn't have to worry," said Lee.

So, her school's administration made sure Leanna had mentorship and other resources, with her being around so many older students.

But Leanna considers herself a normal student, and says her young age hasn't held her back.

"The name of the game has definitely been balance. Balancing extracurricular activities as well as remaining vigilant in the classroom has helped me succeed so far," she said.

And her hard work has paid off, with her poised to graduate with over a dozen honors.

"Just being in the position to be where I am is a huge blessing," she said.

Leanna is studying biology, along the pre-med track, and is preparing to take the MCAT so she can study orthopedics.

She has also been taking MBA classes and expects to finish that graduate degree in a year.
