Lawyer: Man tries to pay ticket with pennies, is choked by court officers
ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WKRC) - A Michigan man attempting to pay a parking ticket with pennies was attacked by courthouse security guards, as caught on video. Now he is reportedly suing the city of Royal Oak for an undisclosed amount of cash.
Anthony Sevy allegedly tried to pay a $10 fine by credit card but was unhappy when told a $1.75 surcharge would be added. Sevy left and returned with rolls of pennies as a show of protest, according to his attorney, Jonathan Marko.
An exchange caught on video showed a court officer arguing with the 33-year-old real estate broker, who was asked to leave the premises. Two officers followed him out one set of doors and then attacked him in the vestibule.
Sevy was said to have been choked into unconsciousness and then defecated himself. After the altercation, Sevy was handcuffed, taken to a holding cell and released 24 hours later.
He pleaded no contest to disturbing the peace, and an assault/obstruction charge was dropped.
