CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The aggravated menacing charge faced by Bengals running back Joe Mixon has been dropped for now. However, the Cincinnati city prosecutor's office said it could be refiled at a later date.
An arrest warrant was issued Thursday. In it, Mixon was accused of pointing a gun at a woman and saying, “You should be popped in the face. I should shoot you now. The police can’t get me."
The incident was reported to have happened at 3rd Street and Walnut Street downtown around Jan. 21, right before the Bengals played the Bills.
During a court hearing Friday afternoon, Cincinnati City Prosecutor Amber Daniel said "We're requesting dismissal because we need additional investigation before we would move forward with this case. The Cincinnati Police Department was able to get in contact with the victim. She understands the need to dismiss this case and the potential that we could refile this at a later date. She does still want to go forward with this charge if we do decide to refile it."
On Thursday, the Bengals released a statement, saying, "The club is aware misdemeanor charges have been raised against Joe Mixon. The club is investigating the situation and will not comment further at this time."
