Report: Cincinnati one of three cities up for MLS expansion (WKRC)

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Major League Soccer is planning to announce its next two expansion cities on December 14.

According to Sports Illustrated Senior Writer Grant Wahl, the MLS has narrowed the list of teams it is considering down to three. He told Fox Sports that Nashville, Sacramento and Cincinnati are the three.

The MLS played the 2017 season with 22 teams. Los Angeles is confirmed to be getting an expansion team. Wahl also told Fox Sports that Miami will be the 24th team with a franchise backed by soccer star David Beckham.

The expected announcement of the next two teams would bring the league to 26 teams. The league has said in the past that it would like to get to 28 teams.

The club announced that it will 100% finance its own stadium, but still needs some support for infrastructure from Hamilton County and the city of Cincinnati.

Hamilton County Commissioners say they will discuss matters related to FC Cincinnati and its stadium needs in the county on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
