MLS names Nashville first of two expansion cities
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRC) - Major League Soccer executives and Nashville city leaders announced that it has been awarded one of two MLS expansion bids on Wednesday.
John R. Ingram, the Commissioner of Major League Soccer, Mayor Megan Barry, and Governor Bill Haslam made the announcement.
Cincinnati is one of three remaining cities being considered for expansion. Sacramento and Detroit are the other two.
FC Cincinnati leaders made their pitch to the MLS last week in New York.
In November, Cincinnati and Hamilton County officials both voted to move plans for an FC Cincinnati forward.
The MLS issued a Tweet on Thursday saying the second MLS expansion city would not be announced until after the new year.
