COLUMBUS (WSYX/WTTE/WKRC) — Ohio State is ranked second in the Preseason Amway Coaches Poll, released Thursday by USA Today.

The Buckeyes are the highest-rated of the four Big Ten teams in the Top 25. Defending conference champion Penn State is 6th, Jim Harbaugh and Michigan is 9th and Wisconsin is 10th.

Alabama starts the season at the top of the poll, as it does nearly every year. Defending national champion Clemson is 5th. Washington, which lost to Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinals last season, is the lowest-ranked team from the 2016 playoff, checking in at 7th.

The Big Ten has four of the top 10, but no other teams in the Top 25. Northwestern, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan State and Maryland all got votes but weren't close to being ranked.

Ohio State's season starts August 31 at Indiana.
