CINCINNATI (Cincinnati Business Courier) - Cincinnati Reds attendance has climbed nearly 9% so far this season compared with a year ago, a trend that might come as a surprise given the small early-season crowds at Great American Ball Park.

Attendance at Reds home games has averaged 18,995 per game this season after 24 games through Sunday. That’s up 8.8% from a year ago, when the Reds averaged 17,447 for the full season. The Reds have drawn 456,000 fans so far this season.

The Reds rank 22nd among Major League Baseball’s 30 teams in per-game attendance this season as its home schedule nears the one-third mark. That’s up from their 24th rank last season.

The Reds’ attendance increase is even greater, at 11%, if you compare it to this same point in 2022, according to Baseball-Reference.com. Its figures rank the Reds 13th in MLB for attendance improvement from the same point a year ago. The team’s increase of 1,952 fans per game is slightly ahead of the MLB attendance improvement average of 1,927 fans per game. MLB attendance is up 8% from a year ago.

But there are a couple of caveats to the Reds numbers.
