Reds land three on National League All-Star team

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett fell short in a late push to vote him a starter for the National League All-Star team, but he along with third baseman Eugenio Suarez and first baseman Joey Votto were selected as reserves.

It's the first All-Star game selection for both.

The game will be played on July 17 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

Gennett is batting .326/.368/.515 with 14 homers and 58 RBI. His .326 batting average is tied for first in the National League. His .883 OPS ranks second among NL second basemen.

Suarez is batting .315/.405/.590 with 19 homers and 68 RBI, which leads the National League. His .995 OPS ranks second in the National League.

Votto is batting .292/.425/.437 with eight homers and 44 RBI. His .425 on-base percentage leads the National League.

The last time the Reds landed three on the NL All-Star team was 2014 whehn they had five selected: catcher Devin Mesoraco, pitchers Johnny Cueto, Alfredo Simon and Aroldis Chapman and third baseman Todd Frazier.
