Crosstown Shootout on the ice played to benefit Humboldt community
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - It's been two weeks since the devastating crash in Canada that left 16 people dead when a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey team collided with a truck.
A GoFundMe page was set up with an initial goal of raising $5,000.
Just 14 days later, it's now become the second largest GoFundMe campaign globally, raising more than 15 million dollars. The money raised going to a newly formed nonprofit, the Humboldt Memorial Fund Inc.
The University of Cincinnati and Xavier club hockey teams showing their support, Friday night hosting a Crosstown Shootout benefiting the Humboldt community at SportsPlus.
Both the UC and Xavier club seasons ending over a month ago, so when they decided to do something to help it was a scramble to put it together.
With help from area businesses and the hockey community, they were able to get it done in two weeks and hold the successful event.
