UC, Xavier meet at Cintas Center for 85th annual Crosstown Shootout
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - It's the game local college hoops fans have been waiting for all year: Xavier University is hosting the University of Cincinnati for the Crosstown Shootout Saturday at noon.
This is the 85th time UC and Xavier have met for the Crosstown Shootout. Xavier students are already lined up at the Cintas Center and are camping out waiting to claim their seats for the game.
So far this season, UC is undefeated with seven straight wins. Xavier is 6-1 so far coming off of a 76-63 win against No. 16 Baylor on Tuesday.
Last season, the Bearcats claimed victory over the Muskies 86-78. UC leads the series 50-34, but the Muskies have won three of the last four and 14 of the last 21 meetings. Also, Xavier has won 34 straight non-conference home games.
It will be an interesting game. Local 12 caught up with some UC and Xavier students Friday:
"We had a lot of support from the student body, especially the Rally Cats. They've been out there guarding the Oscar statue for many nights now. We've seen them out there, so I think that with enough--since it's local--I think with enough students over there, we could pull out a win," said UC sophomore, Gabrielle Beyrer.
"I think X is going to win, for sure! But it will be a good competition," said Xavier sophomore Hannah Lowe.
For the Crosstown Shootouts played at the Cintas Center, Xavier is 6-1 against UC. The last time UC beat Xavier in their own house was in December 2001.
